Sprains and Pains Explained

woman rubbing her foot and ankleDid you know that the average person walks over 100,0000 miles in their lifetime?

As you can imagine, this adds up to a lot of stress on your feet and ankles–in fact, with an estimated 2,000 steps per mile, that’s roughly 200,000,000,000 steps to be exact!

Most sprains and strains that happen in the foot are a result of a ligament or tendon being stretched beyond its limits. More so, once you experience an ankle sprain, the chance of it recurring at some point skyrockets to 80%. With 26 bones and more than 100 muscles working together through 22 different joints every time your feet move, it’s no secret that with so many moving pieces, something can go wrong.

But don’t worry–there’s good news.

Chiropractic and Foot Pain

New research suggests that gentle chiropractic adjustments can help reduce the rate of foot problems like ankle sprains. That’s because chiropractic focuses on balancing the body and restoring optimal function as well as balance. You can even do an at home test by examining the soles of your shoes to look at the “wear and tear” pattern. Do both shoes look the same? Does one sole seem to be more worn in a different area than the other? That’s a telltale sign of imbalance.
